Quick Guide
Try the Demo first. No installation or login needed.
Marketplace Installation
Chrome Web Store
Desktop Chrome 120+ (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Open Shift Lens on the Chrome Web Store, choose Add to Chrome, and confirm Add extension.
Pin Shift Lens from the Extensions menu for quick access.
Chrome on Android, iPhone, and iPad cannot install Shift Lens.
You need a First Due account and your organization's permission to use extensions.
Firefox Add-ons
Coming soon for desktop Firefox and Firefox on Android. The marketplace installation link will appear here when available. Neither Chrome nor Firefox on iPhone or iPad can install Shift Lens.
Mobile: Firefox for Android
For Shift Lens on mobile, use Firefox for Android. Of the browsers supported by Shift Lens, only Firefox on Android allows mobile extensions. Chrome on mobile cannot install Shift Lens. Android support is pending verification, and the Firefox Add-ons listing is not available yet.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Firefox on Google Play. Check that the publisher is Mozilla, then tap Install.
- Open Firefox and return to this guide in Firefox. Once the listing is available, use the Firefox Add-ons link above to install Shift Lens and approve its required permissions.
- In Firefox, open the First Due Shift Board, sign in, and select Shift Lens from Firefox's Extensions menu. Allow First Due site access if prompted.
iPhone and iPad: Firefox is available on the Apple App Store; tap Get to install the browser. Firefox on iOS/iPadOS does not support the extensions needed by Shift Lens, so installing it will not let you use Shift Lens. You can still try the Demo with invented schedules.
Using Shift Lens
- Open the First Due Shift Board and sign in.
- Select Shift Lens from your browser's Extensions menu.
- Allow First Due site access if prompted.
Use the First Due website in the browser where Shift Lens is installed, not the native First Due app.
Using the Calendar
- Desktop: choose Day, Week, or Month. Use the arrows to move through that view.
- Phone: swipe left or right in One day view, or use the date arrows. For a month grid, open Settings > Phone layout > 7 columns.
- Jump to a date: select the displayed date on either device, then choose a day or Today.
- Filter: search names or assignments, choose a position, or turn on Show only open shifts. Clear filters removes these limits.
- Your hours: select the clock (below the date on phones). Green marks your shifts;
~means the monthly total needs review. Hours are estimates, not payroll figures. - Close a panel: use its X button. On desktop, Escape also closes the panel.
- Exit: select the header's exit icon. With no panel open, Escape also exits on desktop.
Confirm in First Due: Open does not guarantee eligibility or approval; Review or Unknown means coverage needs checking. Shift Lens refreshes automatically but does not change your schedule.
Inspect a Shift
Click a shift on desktop or tap it on a phone to see its dates, times, and original source blocks. Use the panel's X to close it.
Settings and Automatic Opening
Select the gear to open Settings: in the top toolbar on desktop, or below the date on phones.
- Appearance: choose System, Light, or Dark.
- Time: choose 12-hour or 24-hour time.
- Phone layout: choose One day for a readable daily list or 7 columns for a month grid. This option appears only on smaller screens.
- Automatic opening: enable Open automatically on Shift Board to launch on supported schedule pages. It is off by default and available on First Due, not in the Demo.
With auto-open enabled, Exit keeps the current page native; reloading or a later schedule-page navigation opens Shift Lens again. Turn off auto-open before exiting to return to manual launch.
Bookmark Shift Lens
Bookmark Open First Due with Shift Lens in the browser where the extension is installed. The bookmark needs the extension, First Due site access, internet, and a First Due login.
Updates and Removal
Marketplace installations receive automatic extension updates. Remove Shift Lens through your browser's extensions manager.
